║ FM ║ ███████ FILE-MANAGER ███████
╚═╤══╤═╝ Ver. 2.03 - Shareware
█▀▀▀▀▀▀█
Peachville Software 1993
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
DOS: 3.0 minimum
Video: DOS Video Mode 3
HDrive: C Drive
Floppy: 3½ and/or 5¼
GENERAL
File Manager records the file information of 5¼ and 3½ disks to sequentially
numbered files, [NUMBER.000, NUMBER.001, etc], to your hard drive. New files
and updates are quickly and effortlessly performed.
Eg: At 16Mhz a 1.44Mb disk with
100 files in
17 branched sub-directories
is updated in less than 7 seconds
File names, sizes, attributes, dates, and times are stored as well as disk
type\capacity number of files and available bytes. The program does not
waste your time presenting high resolution graphics, just gets the job done.
This version supports IBM DOS formatted 1.44 Mb, 1.2 Mb, 360K, 320K, 180K
and 160K disks.
Keeping records of your disk file contents is a matter of a few
keystrokes and locating a disk with a specific file is just as easy.
No more labels on top of labels, chicken scratched notes, etc. All that
each disk requires for you to establish its contents is a permanent number.
This Shareware version can store 15 disk records. The 3.0+ updated version
will record 240 disks.
The records created by File Manager correspond to the Volume Label
automatically named on each disk by the FM program and are stored in the
directory C:\FM
NEW DISKS
Format disks in the regular manner. DO NOT enter a Volume Label when
requested, as File Manager will automatically assign the next available
sequential number and a label will be printed for it.
EXISTING DISKS
Existing Volume Labels should be firstly deleted by using Peter Norton's
Volume Label [VL] command or another similar program. File Manager can then
auto-label them. Caution: some programs may use the volume label for
identification. Document any existing labels before changing them.
INSTALLATION
Create a directory C:\FM, copy all files into this directory, add PATH =
C:\FM; to your AUTOEXEC.BAT then reboot. This version will not operate
properly without this!!
█████ FILE MANAGER PROGRAMS █████
FM.COM
Type FM A or FM B to update the disk in that respective drive A or B,
this takes a few seconds. If a disk is no longer in use, simply delete
its corresponding file from the C:\FM directory and the next new disk will
be issued this missing number and a new label will be printed.
The program also eliminates accidental duplication of volume labels. An
attempted update of a disk which was manually given a duplicate volume
NUMBER.xxx will be aborted. Press FM ? to get quick explanation of the
included programs.
It is recommended that FM be used to update files whenever creation and/or
deletion of files has been done. Updating files that have had their size,
attributes, time and/or date altered is a good idea also,as this information
is used by the other utilities.
LOC.COM
To find a specific file, type LOC <filename.ext>, [enter]. If files
exists on a disk saved by the FM command, a listing of all disk
numbers containing the <filename.ext> will be reported. Wildcards are
acceptable; Eg LOC F*.WKS, will provide a list of all Lotus 1-2-3
compatable worksheet files starting with an "F" and the number of the disk
where each is found.
Each time this program is run, the search information is copied to the file
C:\FM\LOCATE.DOC . Previous information in this file is destroyed whenever
LOC is run.
LST.COM
Type LST xxx to list the contents of a specific disk NUMBER xxx. From
this entry point access to previous and next files is [PgUp/PgDn]. The
screen will scroll for disks with more than a pagefull of files.
The file list can also be sent to your IBM compatable printer, provided it
is on LPT1. Reports are in the following format:
NUMBER.172 1,354,996 4 Files Disk Type: 1.44 Meg Free: 100,352
NUMBER.172 0 --- --- --- --- Vol Arc 02-07-93 20:43
